Eh... I used to buy huge quantities of DVDs that could hold 3-4 movies. I used to fiddle with making a nice "autorun" with a description of the movie and each of the movies. A mountain of these disks went nowhere, and each one cost money.
Today, I don't think every child knows about the CD-ROM, let alone the technology and formats. And now, some 20 years later, you don't understand the need for this device, although at that time it was impossible to imagine working without it.
Does technology develop rapidly or are there only sudden leaps in times of discovery? I don't know... although I've often wondered why the automotive industry develops so slowly, as other fields show developments every year. But today's news that an electric car under autopilot control dodged a tire flying at it made me give credit to progress. That's cool!
