Idealization of man: myth or reality?

Does the phrase "wound straight to the heart" really apply? How much one can trust without looking back and overlook obvious things. Where does one get the belief that all people are good? Where does this idealization of both external and internal human traits come from?

We talk about high matter and morality, trusting in a cruel and greedy world, when at the heart of most things is still the lowly, just a level of sophistication beyond the limits and boundaries of acceptability of the "norms" of the rest.
